Small contiguous village near Luz Saint Sauveur, separated by the Bridge,
Esquièze-Sère is a charming village located on right side of the Gave of Barèges, the "Bastan".
The recasting of the 2 villages goes up in 1846.
In Esquièze which preserved most tardily the "pastorale" named:
"dance of Bayard".

Saint Jean Baptiste church in Sère

The headquarters of an archpriest for a long time, its construction dates back of the
11th century.
A Roman building with three naves (three bodies with free bays with semi-circular arched barrels vaults), that end with three apses in a niche, the carved decoration is restricted ( interior bandeau, exterior cornice, porthole window on the south wall forming a chequered pattern). The porch is comprised around the central Chrism.



In the Chruc,he following of worth your attention:
. The baptism font hollowed out of stone, which could date back to Roman times.
. The Baroque altarpiece of the central nave, attributed to Jean Brunelo (end17thc. and start of 18th),which has been totally restored, most specially due to the remplacement of the original polychromes. Its main panel is consecrated to Saint Jean Baptiste (John the Baptist), the patron saint of the Church, which one can find in the central high relief ( The Baptism of the Christ) and in the low relief, which tops it ( Saint Jean Baptism with the Lamb).
. The side altarpiece (The Holy Family), which has also been recently restored
. the Virgin with Child

The Roman bell-tower is in arcade. 
The Nave was altered at the 17th century.

Hamlet of Vizos: 
Located at 3 kms just with the top of Esquièze-Sère, this small hamlet remains very pleasant from its situation and benefits from a late sunning. 
From there, you will be able to benefit from the footpaths which go up in direction of "Moustayou" and the barns of "Estibère" but also in direction of the village of Chèze.
